The aim of the STA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is to enable an learner to have the knowledge, understanding and skills to act as an appointed person to take charge of the first aid arrangements, including looking after the equipment and facilities and calling the Emergency Medical Services when required.
This qualification is for learners who have a specific responsibility at work to deliver basic first aid to individuals in a range of emergency first aid situations.
This qualification is valid for a period of 3 years. The learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
Course Information
Pre-requisites
The candidate must be 16 years of age or older and be able to kneel on the floor for a minimum of 2 minutes.
Validity of Award
36 Months.
Length of Course
Training courses, including final assessment, must last at least 6 contact hours
Course Times
The course will run from 9am – 4pm with a break for refreshments.
More Information
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
- Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
- The importance of preventing cross infection;
- The need for recording incidents and actions;
- Use of available equipment;
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock; provide appropriate first aid for minor Injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Assessment
The qualification is assessed as set out below:
- Continual assessment by the Tutor;
- Completion of the Final Multiple-Choice Exam Paper.

Parking

Parking is available – The allocated parking is to the right of the building as you drive on to site.
Entrance
There is an entrance right next to where my car will be parked, if you come through that door and up the stairs we are in the meeting room on the second floor (picture of entrance attached)
Refreshments
Tea and coffee is available to use free of charge in the onsite kitchen. Candidates are welcome to bring their own food for lunches and breaks.
